Designed in Siemens NX

Rendered in Blender

Inspired by HRE3D+

Summary

In this project I designed my own wheel rim, inspired by the HRE3D+ wheel rim. I learned how to use Siemens NX Shape Studio to surface model the spokes of the wheel rim, connecting them to the solid modeled hub and peripheral rim.

My favorite part of this model is the intersection point between the “petal” and “Y” spokes. I think this section of the design properly showcases how 3D printing can expand our ability to quickly and cost-effectively manufacture complex geometry.

Although I originally rendered this project in the Siemens Ray Traced Studio, I learned to use Blender to take advantage of its fine lighting and rendering controls in the final renders.

Another interesting note is that I designed this wheel in part using the Vision Pro. I felt like using spatial, curved displays allowed me to more easily process my thoughts into features. I hope to experience true 3D modeling someday!
